Word of the Week, WOW #10

Welcome to the Word of the Week Challenge...we're on number 10 already, double digits!  This one has a definition that is short and sweet (more stamping, less typing, hee)...

chinwag (slang):  conversation; chat

I can't think of a better way to "chinwag" with a friend...sitting at Starbucks and having coffee!  This card also works for my WOW08 which was "ideal"...that would be an "ideal" afternoon...plus I bought the "ideal" paper at my fave local stamp store ("Utopia Stamps and Crafts" in Henrietta, NY!)...this two-sided paper...gingham/cute apples by Reminisce.  I used the Warm Happiness set, by Heather Nichols for Papertrey Ink.  This card also fits the Sketch Challenge today at Splitcoast.
So quit you're "chinwagging" and go stamp a card about it!  Upload your card to Splitcoaststampers using the keyword WOW10.  Or, come back here and tell me where we can view your Word of the Week card.

It's Teapot Tuesday!

Welcome is right!  Welcome back, Mothermark!  She is back hosting her weekly tea parties, woo hoo!
"Her Story"...a makeover was in order!  Mr. and Mrs. Blacken White needed an EXTREME kind of makeover on their house seen here:

Mothermark's Glob

So I called Ty Pennington...and his megaphone! He and his crew decided to smooth some of the jaunty angles and make the White Residence a little cozier for the upcoming holidays! And he decided a compromise was in order... Blanca White wanted some color in her life, but Blacken White is stuck in his old ways. So Ty came up with this ingenious roof, and his team (especially the "chick" on the team) thought a lovely shade of Melon Mambo would compliment the 2 neighbors' homes on each side! After Ty "Moved that BUS!" tears of joy were shed by all of the people in the town in their little hard hats, the Whites, all the Tea Partiers who joined in the rennovation, and most of America.

Little Christmas Cottage, sentiment (from Vintage Greetings), and snowflakes (flowers from Flower Garden!) are by Pink Persimmon!

Gingham backgrounder by Cornish Heritage Farms.  This also fits the Color Challenge over at Splitcoast...to use kraft, black, and Melon Mambo on a card!

Ornaments

For Clean and Simple challenge at Splitcoast...to make a simple card featuring brads or eyelets.  I have had these big brads for a LONG time, and once thought of getting rid of them!  So glad I didn't...used them instead of buttons with PTI's Holiday Button Bits set!

Papertrey Ink Blog Hop!

It's time for another PTI Blog Hop, my second one!

I have 3 simple cards to share tonight.  One night, I just felt like "stamping" without the "card-making" part!  I got out Guide Lines 1 and the grid paper, and just started STAMPING in colors that I liked.  Added some Stickles and left them to dry.

A few days later when I noticed the pretty background paper I created, THEN I was inspired to finish off my cards...couple that with some NEW PTI sets, and I was on a sweet and simple roll....

I created this one with Heather Nichols's awesome new set, Holiday Tree.  I LURVE that snowman!

These two are with that sweet little Gingerbread man from Holiday Button Bits!  Can't get enough of him, yummy!

Also used my old SU Linen and Aida Cloth backgrounds to add to the country charm.

Thanks for looking, and have fun on the HOP!

Deck the Halls

Made this card for today's Featured Stamper at SCS, Rachel Hope!  The challenge is to take one of Rachel's cards and change at least 2 things.  I chose to case her Not a Creature was Stirring card seen here:

Rachel's card

I kept Rachel's theme, colors, and the snowflakes.  I changed the images, papers, omitted the ribbon and stitching, and moved the sentiment.  This cute stocking by Anna Wight for Whipper Snapper Designs was paper-pieced with Reminisce paper.  The snowflake and branch punches are from Martha Stewart!

Virtual Stamp Night is ON!

Hop on over to Splitcoaststampers tonight, and join the Virtual Stamping Night fun!  It is the "VSN Mini" before the big weekend November 13-14th.  The theme is Masquerade Ball...so every hour from 6:00 PM through 10:00 PM (EST) a challenge will be posted for the theme in the "Virtual Stamp Night" forum.

First challenge up is by Meg...she is challenging everyone to take a holiday stamp and then have it masquerade on a card for a DIFFERENT holiday!  Scary fun, huh?

I chose the Christmas tree from the "Believe" set by Papertrey Ink, and watercolored it up in Autumn colors!  Also used sentiment from PTI's First Fruits, and Guide Lines 1 to make the background.  Loaded on some chocolate-y Stickles to complete the Masquerade!

Challenge #2....by my friend, Diane!  To make a ONE LAYER card using MASKING....eeeeeek, DIANE!  That one was so hard!  Here is my card:
I stamped the snowman first, then covered him with scrap paper, and stamped the trees around him.  To make the moon, I punched a circle out, then put the "leftover" or "negative" piece back down on the paper.  Then I sponged inside to make a hazy little sun (or moon?!).  I had to sponge some color around the trees due to some ink smudges...and since it is supposed to be a one layer card, that means I can't cover it up with something!!!  I added Crystal Snow by Stampendous along the bottom, and gave him 2 Kaiser Chocolate pearl buttons.

This set is called Holiday Tree and it is by Heather Nichols for Papertrey Ink....I am a weeeeeee bit addicted to it!  Isn't that snowman the CUTEST?!

Challenge #3...by Alicia...to be inspired by the Phantom of the Opera.  I immediately thought of the black poster with the white mask, and the red rose...and the fancy chandelier!

I continued my PTI bonanza!  Used new Giga Guide Lines set, and embossed it in black.  Added black rhinestones to center.  Went back and stamped Original Guide Lines in red.  Wanted this card to be dramatic just like the play!

Challenge #4:  for PK Penn's challenge called "Mask for the Ball!  To incorporate the masking technique, and to use bright yellow, kelly green (woo hoo!), or royal purple on your card.

I did reverse masking for this card.  I placed a punched out circle in the middle of my white paper, then stamped Cornish Heritage Farm's Gingham Backgrounder over the top in yellow.  Then I used Papertrey Ink's Holiday Button Bits set for the holly.  I added Liquid Pearls to the leaves.  And double extra credit points for me, I used yellow AND green!!!!  This card didn't take much time, but I really like how it turned out...very cheery!

Challenge #5...from my girl, Peggysue!  To make a card using acetate and white ink.

Welllll, since I had out the cute snowman from PTI's Holiday Tree, I had to use him again!  Stamped snowflakes on a piece of acetate.  Then stamped snowman and tree on Ripe Avocado paper.  Punched scalloped circle out of kraft paper, and then placed acetate piece behind for window.  Put snowman piece on this inside of the card so he is peeking out.  The good thing about acetate is that if you make a mistake, you can wipe it off for awhile...the bad part is, it takes forever to dry...so if you have little hands around, you might have to stamp the snowflakes 3 or 4 more times!!!!!

That ends the VSN Mini for tonight!

Be sure to come over to Splitcoaststampers VSN Forum on Friday November 13th for the beginning of the VSN Masquerade Ball Weekend....I will be hosting a challenge on Friday night at 9:00 PM!!

Doe a Dear

For today's Limited Supply Challenge at SCS, to make a "girlie" card with no patterned paper, unless you made it yourself!  I made my pattern using the floral image and the doe from Oh Dear, Silhouettes by Pink Persimmon.  Also for the Ways to Use it Challenge from yesterday, to incorporate a patchwork design into your card!

If you would like to get the chance to meet Darcy McNairy, co-owner of Pink Persimmon, be sure to hop on over to the Cookin' Up Creations blog tonight at 9:00 PM (EST)...Darcy will be there for a LIVE chat!

WOW #9

Sorry for the late Word of the Week post...my bad...or should I say my FLUBDUB...but that doesn't really mean mistake but it DOES mean:

flubdub: claptrap; bunkum (hmm don't know what those mean either?)...claptrap:  meaning, pretentious nonsense; trash;  OR of a cheap, showy nature....bunkum:  insincere or foolish talk; nonsense

I made this card today and am including it as my sample "after the fact".  The Gingerbutton Boy is made with Papertrey Ink's new Holiday Button Bits set.  I made the side panel with Guide Lines by PTI and then added a TON of Stickles, thus making it very "showy".  And Stickles are kinda "cheap".  Don't throw things at your screen, I mean it in a GOOD way!!!!  A little bottle of Stickles provides lots of sparkle for a few bucks, hee!

So upload a card inspired by the word flubdub to Splitcoaststampers with the keyword WOW09, or leave me a comment here about your creation.  Some people have left messages that they can't link a post, so I may have to investigate this further with a few of my friends who are not rookie bloggers!

Little Button Bird

This little card was for a double challenge over at Splitcoaststampers!  The Limited Supply Challenge last week was to make a card using a pre-purchased notecard ( I know, gasp!)...and then the Inspiration Challenge was to make a card using tiles by Xenia Taler for inspiration.  If you are re-doing your kitchen or something, go take a look at THESE!

I used Everyday Button Bits by Papertrey Ink, as I was inspired by the "Chick" tiles.  I made this birdie's tail grander by using a big flourish stamp from The Angel Company.  And the note card...it was from a set I bought at Michael's, from the dollar bin!  I cut the front to show the gingham that was on the inside.  What?  Gingham on the inside?  That is NOT allowed on this blog, the GINGHAM must SHOW!

Bits of Pretty

It's fall here in Rochester...here are a few glimpses of some pretty!

A hydrangea at my nephew Scott's new house.  He cared about clearing the path for his snowmobile trail, while I drooled over his ready made garden!

Snow on my mums!

Snow on my "butterfly bush"!

And a cute little "Pretty" with her Uncle Vic, all ready for school in her new fall coat!

And a little "Happy Harvest" card using all things pretty from Papertrey Ink!

Think Pink!

Pink Persimmon is sponsoring a "Think Pink" challenge over at Cookin' Up Creations.  You were to submit a project that was mainly pink in color, and something to give to a friend.  Here is my gift bag submission for my friend Melissa, who will be doing a 3-day Walk for Breast Cancer Research!

Doesn't Pink Persimmon and some flower punches dress up a "Dollar Store" bag goooooood?!

Here is a close-up of the ribbon:

Used Papertrey Ink Sweet Blush cardstock and punched out many mini flowers.  Adhered them with glue dots, then painted all of them with Shimmerz paint in Opal.  Added White Opal Liquid Pearl dots in centers. Used You're a Jewel set from Pink Persimmon for center and sentiment.  Added more Liquid Pearls, pink Stickles, and a rhinestone to make my jewel really shine!

Visit Cookin' Up Creations and check out the challenge...you have until 6:00 pm tonight to play...and win some free Pink Persimmon goodies yourself!

WOW #8, and a recap from last week...

Welcome to Word of the Week #8!  There are many definitions for this one, according to Webster's, so here is a bit of a summary...

ideal:
1. existing as a mental image or in fancy or imagination only; lacking practicality
2. conforming exactly to an ideal, law, or standard; perfect
3. existing as an archetypal idea (prototype)
4. of or relating to philosophical idealism
5. a standard of perfection, beauty, or excellence
6. one regarded as exemplifying an ideal and often taken as a model for imitation
7. an ultimate object or aim of endeavor; goal

Whew, that is a whole bunch of words to sum up a relatively short little word!  Don't forget to upload your "ideal" card to SCS using the keyword "WOW08" ...or link your blog post back here in my comments section.

And here is my sample from last week's word "sinostrorse"...

MariLynn, my loyal WOW player, and I had a discussion about how cards can be "sinsostrorse" or "dexitrorse" depending on how you look at them. Okay, really, MariLynn thought all of that up, and I thought "WOW (literal definition) she is just a genius!"  These kitties appear to be running left to right which was not my intention...because sinostrorse means "right to left" orientation...however, if you are BEHIND this card, SHOWING it to someone, than I would have been right, hee!

Used Little Cuties, Carnival Alpha, and Ric Rac Circle all from Pink Persimmon.  Since this was for Wendy's Limited Supply Challenge at SCS, I could only use paper, ink, and stamps...and a measley punch if I wanted to.  Wendy drives a hard limited supply bargain!  So I inked up my Gingham and Ticking Stripe Backgrounders from Cornish Heritage Farms for some inky extra credit!

It's "Easeler" than it looks!

Today's "Try a New Technique" challenge at Splitcoast was to make an easel card!  Lynn Mercurio, our hostess with the mostest, linked us up to an awesome tutorial by Penny Wessenhauer seen here:

Easel Card Tutorial by Penny Wessenhauer

Here are 2 views of my card (which by the way, would be very easy for a linear-minded individual.  I, on the other hand, have trouble packing my suitcase!). Even though it took me a little longer, it sure was fun!

I used paper from Cosmo Cricket's Early Bird Collection, and the Small Banner set from Pink Persimmon!

Ric-Rac Paddiwhacked!

This card is for today's Featured Stamper challenge at Splitcoast.  Today's FS was GLOWBUG aka Chris Olsen!  You are to take one of Chris' cards and change at least 2 things.  I cased (which stands for "copy and share everything!") this card linked here:

"Tulled"

I kept the general theme of an animal wearing clothing, hee!  But I didn't use a mouse in a tutu, I used a Scotty Dog !  Also kept the same layout, and added the Ric Rac Circle to my scalloped circle topper!  All stamps on this happy little card are from Pink Persimmon!

Also kept dots, some of the colors, and the fabric covered button embellishment.  I changed the actual image, the papers (I used Cosmo Cricket's dotted paper from the Early Bird Collection), and didn't use the punched bottom or the pearls...(gasp, I know, I DIDN'T use the pearls?!).

CONGRATULATIONS, Chris!  Your gallery is a joyful mix of patterns, perfect coloring, and jaw-dropping dimension!

Blue Jewel

Time for some Pink Persimmon LOVE!  And love this set, I DO!

Used You're a Jewel set by Pink Persimmon, stamped with Chocolate Chip Craft ink on Bliss Blue (OLD!) Stampin Up paper, then embossed with ultra-fine clear embossing powder.  Added Kaiser blue rhinestones, and paper from SEI's Alpine Frost Collection along the bottom.  This card twinkles in "real-life"!

This card is for 2 challenges, the Clean and Simple Card challenge at SCS. This week we were to be inspired by pillows at Cost Plus World Market. I chose these Blue Floral Embroidered pillows. This is also for the Clean and Simple Blog Fall-to-Layout #61!

Halloweeny WOW#7!

This week's Word of the Week struck me as kind of fallish and Halloweeny!

sinistrorse:
1-(of a plant) twining spirally upward around an axis from right to left
2-sinistral: meaning, relating to or inclined to the left OR having whorls turning from the right toward the left as viewed with the apex toward the observer

Hmmm very technical...but perfect for a windy day here in Rochester!

Upload your sinstrorse card to Splitcoaststampers using the keyword "WOW07" or post the card on your blog and link it back here in my comments section!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DON!

Happy Birthday to my brother-in-law Don!  He is 50-somethingish today, woo hoo!  But he likes the Miami Dolphins who let the Buffalo Bills have it this weekend, BOO hoo!

Here he is with his daughter (ny niece), Dana!  She has the coolest BBQ's at her house when we visit New Jersey in the summer!

And here he is with his FIRST grandson, Travis!

Don has several nicknames for me, 2 of the most popular being D.W. and Dippy.  Now that you see that my second nickname is Dippy, you probably figured out what the "D" and "W" stand for!  He thinks it is weird that when he asks me to pass him the salt, I hand him the pepper! When he was teaching me how to drive when I was seventeen, I inadvertantly took a "jughandle" turn and ended up parked in the oncoming traffic lane.  Very VERY calmly, he told me to back up...when I said "Why?", he told me very VERY calmly that I was in the wrong lane.  He slammed the gear into reverse, and told me very VERY calmly to hit the gas, all while I was being very VERY anxious about the whole thing!

So Happy Birthday to my Dolphin-lovin', rail-fannin', Nascar followin', very VERY calm brother-in-law!  HUGS!

Warm Happiness around the world!

I really wanted to play the World Card-Making Day challenges posted for Papertrey Ink!  Nichole Heady challenged everyone to make a card representing the styles and cultures from 4 different countries...Japan, Mexico, India, and Australia!  I made my first card for Australia, using the "Warm Happiness" set by Heather Nichols, but then I thought...what if I kept out the SAME set, and just changed the styles to match the different countries?!  It turned out to be SO much fun for me!  So here are my 4 entries...come on a little journey and enjoy a "cuppah" something good as we travel around the world!

coffee in Australia

tea in Japan

cocoa in Mexico

and tea in India

Used lots of PTI cardstock and other PTI sets (besides Warm Happiness), including Polka Dot Basics, Background Basics Retro, and Guide Lines II.

Such a fun challenge, thanks for posting it Nichole...and for the chance to win some AWESOME prizes!
